Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers about odds comparison and how TopBets works.
What is an odds comparison site?
An odds comparison site shows the prices every bookmaker offers for the same bet, side by side, so you can pick the best one. The same football match can be priced noticeably differently across 22 UK bookmakers — comparing before you bet means a bigger return from exactly the same stake and outcome.
Is TopBets free to use?
Yes — completely free, with no account required to compare odds. Creating a free account adds extras like saved favourites, followed teams, and email alerts when odds hit your target price.
How does TopBets make money?
Through affiliate commissions: if you click through to a bookmaker and sign up, the bookmaker may pay us a commission. This never affects the odds you get or how we rank prices — the best odds are highlighted purely on price. TopBets is not owned by any bookmaker. See our affiliate disclosure for details.
Why do bookmakers offer different odds for the same match?
Each bookmaker sets its own prices based on its own risk models, the bets it has already taken, and how competitive it wants to be on a given market. Those differences are the whole point of comparing: the best price on one outcome is often at a bookmaker you would not have checked.
What is the difference between decimal and fractional odds?
They express the same thing differently. Decimal odds (2.50) show your total return per £1 staked, including your stake. Fractional odds (6/4) show profit relative to stake. Decimal 2.50 equals fractional 6/4 — both return £25 from a £10 bet. TopBets lets you toggle between the two formats.
How often are the odds updated?
It depends on whether the match has started. Pre-match prices refresh every few minutes. Once a match is under way we show live in-play prices and refresh them on roughly a 60-second cycle. Every match displays how old its prices are, measured from the bookmaker feed rather than from when your browser last loaded. In-play prices are suspended and re-priced constantly, so always confirm the final odds at the bookmaker before placing your bet — the price you see there is the one that counts.
Can I place bets on TopBets?
No. TopBets is a comparison service, not a bookmaker — we never take bets or hold your money. When you tap "Bet Now" you go to the bookmaker's own site or app, where the bet is placed under their terms.
Which bookmakers does TopBets compare?
22 UK-licensed bookmakers, including Sky Bet, Paddy Power, William Hill, Ladbrokes, Coral, Unibet, BetVictor, Betway, Betfred and BoyleSports. We compare fixed-odds bookmakers only — betting exchanges are excluded because their commission-free prices are not directly comparable. Bet365 does not publish odds through our data feed, so its prices do not appear in our comparisons; we do publish an independent review of it.
Is odds comparison legal in the UK?
Yes. Comparing odds is simply comparing published prices. All bookmakers listed on TopBets are licensed by the Gambling Commission. You must be 18 or over to gamble in the UK.
What does "best odds" actually save me?
More than most people expect. Taking the best available price instead of a single bookmaker's default typically improves returns by several percent per bet — which compounds significantly over a season of betting. The BEST tag on TopBets marks the top price for each outcome.
